Coffee Tables: Asymmetric | Dissonance

Put a vase of flowers in the middle, a piece of pottery in the center, a book to the left...styling a coffee table seems really simple, but is it? Here is a collection of differently styled coffee tables, notice the composition and balance; very asymmetrical with lots of dissonance. While most people are apt to quickly put something right in the center of the table, it seems that that's not the most aesthetically pleasing solution anymore.

{Notice}
  • there is always height to one side of the table-scape, either the left or right - much different than one would style a dining table with a center piece..
  • also, notice how most ground the table by placing something underneath, i.e. books, baskets
  • tray's ground a collection of smaller objects
{Remember}
its like a dance, and the height should be farthest away from where one most views the tablescape (smaller things in front)
  •   height to the right, grounded to the left
  •   height to the left, grounded to the right
the tray here grounds the array of items on the table
lots of dissonance, very asymmetrical, grounded with books
dissonance, again...tall + grounding objects
again, tall to the right, grounded to the left
...and we see the same here
grounding + asymmetrical height
